Pirates of the Burning Sea is the first major video game to be released in the US that is based upon the life of a pirate. There are thousands of games on war, fantasy, puzzle, etc, so why has the Pirate niche been over looked?
To be honest, I have no idea why. Thankfully, Flying Lab Software designed Pirates of the Burning Sea, often abbreviated PotBS, to accommodate all those pirate fans out there! PotBS is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, or MMORPG, based in 1720. The game takes place on and around the Caribbean ocean.
You will play the life of an ordinary, every-day pirate. You will travel from port to port, trading, looting, and in general, being a pirate. Finally you get the chance to live like Black Beard or other famous pirates!
As I mentioned, PotBS is an online game. This means that almost everyone around you in the game is a real human being, playing the exact same you are. Everyone plays on the same world, so you can interact with your friends and make new ones through this game. This makes for a very fun game. It is a great experience to look around and know that everyone there is a real human being. When you trade with someone, you are trading with a real human, and generally both parties benefit from a trade, so it feels good. Of course if you are less kind hearted than I, you will enjoy the killing of other people’s characters!
Pirates of the Burning Sea is a highly user-based game. Without loyal players, this game would be nothing. The economy especially is driven by the players. There is a very intricate trade system in PotBS, which allows you to trade, barter, and buy virtually anything from any other player, using the main currency of the game, Pirates of the Burning Sea Doubloons. PotBS doubloons fund every transaction, unless it is a direct item-for-item trade.
Many MMORPG’s, including PotBS, have had problems with real world trading or real money trade.
