Pirates of the Burning Sea is a MMORPG, i.e. Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Called PotBS for short, it was developed by Flying Lab Software. Based in 1720, in the Caribbean, the game features action and adventure in the high seas and takes the players into the world of pirates from that age. As you can imagine, each profession comes with its own set of characteristics: Naval officers can be expected to excel on the high seas, whereas privateers are considered to be talented adventurers, and freetraders play a vital role in the player-driven economy. As a pirate, you can no other occupation other than being a pirate itself. However, unlike other games, these choices in profession are not restrictive and a player with any profession can play and win at all kinds of combat and trade options.
The game offers a number of interesting quests, sea battles and ground combats. As with a number of other games, you can communicate with non-player characters (NPC), receive tasks that are required to be performed solo or as part of a group and travel to a variety of locations to fulfill on the task. The NPC form a rather interesting part of the game. The characters range from vengeful captains to drunken sailors and have a lot of character even as they relate their story in text. The game is full of kill-this quests and get-that missions, which allow you to level up as you complete them.
