DAoC, or Dark Age of Camelot, is a revolutionary massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) developed by Mythic Entertainment and released in October of 2001. It is 3 dimensional medieval fantasy game that is inspired by the war between the three realms of King Arthur’s kingdom after his death. This game is extremely large and offers a number of choices for player settings and also offers numerous in game environments with unique and interesting characters in large numbers.
The really interesting part of the game is that it offers two distinct styles of playing to all players. Players can choose the Player vs. Environment (PvE) option, where they can battle computer controlled characters. On the other hand, players can choose the Player vs. Player (PvP) option, where they can take on other players. However, this mode is optional, and even if you chose not to battle other players, you can still enjoy hours and hours of playing this game. In each of these two styles, there are solo as well as group missions available. The DAoC PvP is also known as RVR or Realm vs Realm. This is because players from each the three realms of the game, Albion, Midgard and Hibernia, battle players from the other two realms in the PvP setting.
A player of the DAoC hunts and battles NPC (non-player characters), undertakes a quest or a task and battles other players to earn experience and Dark Age of Camelot Plat, which is the in game currency. Gaining experience and earning DAoC Plat will allow a player to level up, which gives you new skills and the ability and access to more areas of the game. Both PvP and PvE games offer in game money as part of the reward by finishing a quest or killing an enemy combatant, but PvE does offer more money rewards. Like the game itself, the economy in the game is diverse. The basic currency is a ‘coin’ and has numerous denominations. They are copper, silver, gold platinum and mythril. The money in Dark Age of Camelot is the most sought after currency as the limit of currency per character cannot exceed 200 DAoC Plats, as they are commonly called, although it is possible for a character to own more than 200 DAoC Plats across multiple players. A thriving trade exists in these DAoC Plats. Players who need Plats to upgrade their weaponry or their level often pay real world money to buy these Plats from other players. So players who are proficient in the game actually stand to make profit by selling their Plats for real world money to other players of the game. This is, perhaps, one of the most enjoyable ways of making money anywhere in the world.
